Publish or Perish
"Publish or Perish is a software program that retrieves and analyzes academic citations. It uses Google Scholar to obtain the raw citations, then analyzes these and presents the following statistics:
ImpactStory
Allows you to create a report that shows your impact all other the web, tracking information from blogs, Twitter, Facebook, Wikipedia, and other non-scholarly websites in addition to databases such as Scopus to give a more rounded view of how frequently a researcher is being cited by the public.

As many articles and reports are listed by author's last name and first inital, and most of those are not extremely unique names, these organizations have made it their mission to create unique identifers for the public identities of individuals to prevent confusion over people with the similar or even the same names.
