Live Captions & Translations

While watching streaming video (or any video content online), you may want the help of captions or translations. If the film does not come with the captions you need, you can try Chrome's Live Captions and Translation tools. More info here.

Finding Films in OneSearch

You can search Fondren Library's catalog, OneSearch, for streaming films and DVDs. Use the Material Type facet in the left margin of the search results to filter for Videos - this will include streaming and physical media. Be sure to click the green APPLY FILTERS button to filter your search.

DVDs are located in the South Reading Room on the first floor. DVD players are available for check-out at the Library Service Desk.

Kanopy Streaming
Streaming films, documentaries, and TV shows, from studios and producers like A24, PBS, BBC, MUBI, and Criterion.

Note: You'll need to set up a free account using your Rice email address in order to watch videos. If using a public PC in the library, users need to use Firefox.
Swank Digital Campus
Full-length streaming movies and TV episodes.

Fondren Library subscribes to Swank's Top 1000 list and also purchases individual titles; contact your subject librarian to request a title.

Streaming educational, documentary, and feature films.

Internet Archive Moving Image Archive
Thousands of digital movies which range from classic full-length films, to daily alternative news broadcasts, to cartoons and concerts. Many of these videos are available for free download.

BFI Film Channel on Youtube
Hundreds of free films from the British Film Institute National Archive, the world's largest and most diverse film and TV archive plus previews of new and forthcoming BFI releases, expert commentary, interviews and more.
BFI Player - Free
Free films, commentaries, and clips on the BFI Player.
National Film Board of Canada
Enjoy documentaries, animations and alternative dramas on the web on your personalized home page, or on your iPhone.

Public Domain Movies
Movies that have entered into the public domain and can be downloaded, modified, & remixed freely.
Digital Theatre Plus
Resources for theatre including filmed productions, documentaries, master classes, interviews, reference guides and more. Note that DT+ resources are not listed in OneSearch.
