BioMed Central is a publisher of open access, online, peer-reviewed journals. The portfolio of journals spans all areas of biology and medicine. Institutional membership to BioMed Central/Chemistry Central/Springer Open is provided through Fondren Library.
All original articles published by BioMed Central are made freely and permanently accessible online immediately upon publication. Authors publishing with BioMed Central retain the copyright to their work, licensing it under the Creative Commons Attribution License which allows articles to be re-used and re-distributed without restriction, as long as the original work is correctly cited.
BioMed Central levies an article-processing charge (APC) to cover the cost of the publication process. Fondren Library will pay 50% of the APC charge. Learn more on the BMC member page.

BioMed Central journals use online submission. Detailed instructions are available online. During the submission process, an author will claim sponsorship by Rice University (Fondren Library). Fondren Library staff will be notified, and will verify that at least one author meets our criteria:

PLOS (Public Library of Science) is a nonprofit Open Access publisher with a mission to accelerate progress in science and medicine by helping to transform research communication.
