Rice Author Open Access Fees: Transformative Agreements
Fondren Transformative Agreements
Generally, a transformative agreement shifts "the contracted payment from a library or group of libraries to a publisher away from subscription-based reading and towards open access publishing." ( Hinchliffe, 2019) As part of these agreements--often classified as "read and publish" or "publish and read" -- the library supports the article processing charges (APCs) for affiliated authors.

Current Fondren Library Transformative Agreements
Note: Current agreements only cover articles accepted for publication after January 1, 2024.
Not all journal titles qualify for inclusion in the library's agreements. Some publishers, like Cambridge University Press, provide an eligibility checker tool, to confirm that your journal is covered by the agreement. If you are unsure whether your journal is covered, please contact the library at openaccess@rice.edu.

Cambridge University Press
- Corresponding author must be Rice-affiliated
