Welcome
This guide is designed to increase awareness of and access to the tools and resources at Rice University dedicated to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.
It is sponsored by Fondren's Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility Committee.
Fondren Library values diversity in its users, staff, and resources. To meet the needs of patrons and staff who have been historically underrepresented and/or unwelcomed, the Committee advises on issues such as:

creating welcoming and accessible physical and virtual spaces

training recommendations

technology needs

best practices for hiring and retention

identifying and suggesting services, collections, and community events.
The Fondren Library Accessibility and Inclusion Committee seeks to ensure that the library is a welcoming place for all and serves as a resource for library staff and as a contact for the Disability Resource Center and other campus DEI and accessibility groups.

Scholars from the fields of communication, theater, queer studies, media studies, performance studies, dance, visual arts, and fashion design, to name a few, collectively ask: What are the connections between African American arts, the work of social justice, and creative processes?
Middle-Class African American English by Call Number: PE3102.N42 W45 2021ISBN: 9780521895316Publication Date: 2021-02-04African American English (AAE) is a major area of research in linguistics, but until now, work has primarily been focused on AAE as it is spoken amongst the working classes. From its historical development to its contemporary context, this is the first full-length overview of the use and evaluation of AAE by middle class speakers, giving voice to this relatively neglected segment of the African American speech community. Weldon offers a unique first-person account of middle class AAE, and highlights distinguishing elements such as codeswitching, camouflaged feature usage, Standard AAE, and talking/sounding 'Black' vs. 'Proper'.
