An Electronic Thesis or Dissertation (ETD) is a digital version of a thesis or dissertation. The Rice Research Repository (R-3) provides digital access to all Rice theses and dissertations from 1916-present.
All theses and dissertations are processed by Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. Information about the submission process can be found on the Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies website.
Generally, your thesis or dissertation is available in the repository 3-4 months after graduation. If you requested that your ETD also be made available in ProQuest, it will appear shortly thereafter.
Theses and dissertations are available in downloadable PDF format unless they are embargoed. The library is unable to provide copies of embargoed material.
If you are a student who has questions about embargoes or would like to request an embargo extension, please get in touch with Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.
Although library staff are not responsible for ETD approval, we are available to answer questions on issues related to ETD publishing, such as copyright and digital accessibility. We provide in-person and virtual support for current and past graduate students.
