The Shepherd School Digital Archive is a collection of digitized performances by students and faculty of the Shepherd School of Music, Rice University, recorded during the years 1975-2015. Performances include thousands of concerts and recitals presented in various venues including Hamman Hall, the Rice Memorial Chapel and Milford House, along with many performances from in the venues in Alice Pratt Brown Hall. Corresponding concert programs have also been digitized when available.
NOTE: We do not have these recordings on compact disc or any other physical tangible format, as these were not salvageable after the digitization process.
The contents of this archive are growing; as of Summer, 2022, digitization of existing recordings is complete up to June 2015.
We are currently in the process of digitizing our archive of Shepherd School concert recordings and accompanying programs, and will be for the foreseeable future. To date you may be able to find a recording/program anywhere from 1975 to 2015. To find a particular recording, search the Rice Digital Scholarship Archive first. If you do not find it there, contact Mary Brower, the Fondren music librarian, at mdumont@rice.edu. You can also send an email to ask@rice.libanswers.edu. If we have the recording you want, we may be able to prioritize its digitization for you.
Recordings archived by Fondren Library are mostly limited to Rice degree recitals, Shepherd School faculty and ensemble concerts, and some concerts performed by guest performers and ensembles.
PLEASE NOTE: Recordings of concerts performed during the most recent academic years are housed at the Shepherd School. Currently Fondren Library does not have anything recorded past May 2015.
