Ebooks: Finding Ebooks
Getting Started
The best place to search for ebooks is OneSearch, which can be found on the homepage of the library website. Using OneSearch to find ebooks ensures that Rice has access to the books you find (not always clear if you search using the provider's website instead) and will give you the best chance of having a smooth login process. Limiting Search
After entering in a search term, on the left-hand side of your search results you will see the option to refine your results.
Limiting Search to Ebooks
Under material type, you will see the types of resources Rice has that match your search term. You can see how many of each type is available and limit your search further to one or many specific types.
Keep in mind that different ebooks have different DRM restrictions, which can limit anything from the number of people that can access a title at the same time, the number of pages that can be printed and/or downloaded, and the amount of time a book can be downloaded onto your devices.
Navigating to Ebook
Identifying the Ebook Provider:
- Step 1: Check the OneSearch link - sometimes they will just have a generic name (like view full text), but other times they will be the name of the provider (most commonly Ebook Central AKA ProQuest or EBSCO host)
- Step 2: Check the URL - both sites have their names in the URL (EBSCOhost has a large E as an icon on their tab)
- Step 3: If you still are not certain, check the top of the webpage (ProQuest will have their name at the top) - ProQuest tends to dark blue/purple or teal in their banners, while EBSCOhost has a dark blue bar running across the top)
