Almost all of the library's online resources are available to you from off-campus.
To use our digital library from off-campus, it is best to begin from the library's website. OneSearch, web page links, the electronic reserve module, and journal portal all include the proper coding to take you to the Rice proxy server. You will be asked to log into the proxy using your NetID and password ... and then passed on to the journal or other online resource. The online resource will now recognize you as an authorized user and give you full access.
Just remember to link to resources from library web pages so you'll be recognized as a member of the Rice community. For example, if you try to access Wiley Online Library by going directly to http://wiley.com from off-campus, you won't be able to get in. If you link to Wiley Online Library from the library's electronic resources, you'll be asked for your NetID and passed on through.
All of our resources now are web-based and are routed through the proxy.
The proxy requires no action on the user's part ... except to login using their NetID and password. It requires no special software, accounts or updating on the user's machine.
While VPN may provide faculty and students access to other University resources, it no longer offers any enhanced benefit for accessing library resources.
To report a problem with a library resource use the "Contact Us" form, selecting "Problem with an electronic resource, website, journal or service" from the dropdown subject menu. Please provide specific details in the "Question/comment" box.
