Finding Articles
Use indexes to find references to research articles and to other materials such as books, book chapters, dissertations, etc.
In some cases, links to the full text are provided. When links are not available, use the Journal Portal to find access points for journals in electronic format. Some subscriptions are in paper format only; check Webcat to search for journals not found online.
- Academic Search Complete This link opens in a new windowScholarly and general interest sources in business, medicine, humanities, social sciences, and science and technology, including books, journal and magazine articles, bibliographies, and trade publications.
- ACM Digital Library This link opens in a new windowBibliographic information, abstracts, reviews, and the full text for articles published in Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) periodicals and proceedings since 1947, as well as selected works by affiliated organizations.
- IEEE Xplore This link opens in a new windowThe IEEE/IEE Electronic Library database delivers full-text access to all journals, conference proceedings and active standards in electrical engineering, computer science and related technologies from the Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
IEEE will discontinue support for Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) on May 31, 2022. Please use a different browser to access these materials. - Current Contents Connect This link opens in a new windowTables of contents and article summaries from approximately 6,600 scientific and technical journals, updated weekly. Five editions of Current Contents are available online: Agriculture, Biology & Environmental Sciences; Engineering, Technology & Applied Sciences; Life Sciences; Clinical Medicine; and Physical, Chemical & Earth Sciences.
The lag time between journal publication and availability on the network is several weeks to a month. - Dissertations and Theses This link opens in a new windowCitations for doctoral dissertations from 1861 to the present. Some master's theses are also available. The full texts of dissertations and theses added since 1997 (since 1918 for Rice theses) may be downloaded.
- Scopus This link opens in a new windowIndexes over 15,000 journals, as well as several million web pages and U.S. and international patents. Database includes article citations from 1996, and permits citation tracking, and (both) saving searches and email or RSS alerts of new material. The system will export records into major citation managers and prepare a bibliography according to major formats. (1966- )
