Fondren Library Civic Engagement 2019-2024

New:

Due to the changing needs, Anna Xiong (FDLP Representative) has initiated and created vdvr@rice.edu in August 2022 as an expansion of fondrenvdvr@rice.edu.

She was able to recuite close to 20+ Rice VDVRs to join vdvr@rice.edu. She used this platform to call VDVRs and facilitate the communication and collaboration to support. She has set up sign up spreadsheets for all main Rice voter registration events of the fall semester 2022.

These VDVRs were critical to the success of having 520+ students registered to vote during the fall semester.

In a remarkable achievement for Rice University, the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge (ALL IN) recognized our institution on November 16, 2022, as one of the 2022 ALL IN Most Engaged Campuses for College Student Voting. This distinction is awarded to colleges and universities across the country that demonstrate a committed and deliberate effort to increase student participation in the voting process. Fondren Library, a staunch advocate for civic engagement and a pivotal partner of the campus-wide RiceVotes Collective (formerly known as anna RicEngaged Coalition), played a crucial role in earning this esteemed recognition.

Anna Xiong was nominated for 2022 Fondren Library Shapiro Innovation Staff Award for her leadership and civic engagement contribution.
