Teacher Resources (Proect V.O.T.E.): This program is designed to provide you with the tools and materials needed to educate your students about the importance of voting and civic engagement. Aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards, our resources are tailored to support students at different grade levels, ensuring that they become knowledgeable, responsible voters. Below, you'll find specific sections dedicated to grades 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12, each featuring materials and activities that meet the TEKS objectives for those levels.
This guide was created in the SLSV Coalition’s Resources & Support Subcommittee. By creating resources (like this guide) that are specifically focused on reaching STEM students and meeting them where they are, we hope to continue to shift the culture of the scientific community towards more, deeper, civic engagement. This guide is targeted at campus leaders (students, faculty, and administrators) as well as others who are looking for guidance on how to communicate the connections between science, scientists, and democratic engagement. We hope these talking points and examples can spark conversations and help STEM students reflect and see themselves as part of, and not separate from, politics.
