Off-Campus (Remote) Library Services: Interlibrary Loan (ILL)
Guide to library services while working remotely.
Interlibrary loan staff can fulfill requests for electronic articles and some physical books, depending on availability.
You may request items the library does not own through interlibrary loan.
To request items through interlibrary loan, you will need to log in to ILLiad with your NetID and set up your account.
Check whether Fondren owns an item
We recommend you search in a couple of places before placing an interlibrary loan request -- if you find it online with one or two searches, you will save a good deal of time.
- Check OneSearch
- Check WorldCat
- For books, search by title and/or author
- For academic articles, search by journal article
- WorldCat will also show you how many libraries own the item, which gives an idea of how long it might take to borrow the item from another library
- Check Google Scholar
- Articles are frequently found on institutional repositories or author websites
- If it is an item that might be in the public domain, check Project Gutenberg
- Check related collections listed on the Provisional E-resources page
